Sziget Festival, famously known as the 'Island of Freedom,' is one of Europe's largest and most iconic music and cultural events. Held annually on Óbuda Island in the heart of Budapest, the festival transforms the 108-hectare island into a vibrant temporary city. It features a massive and diverse program with over 1,000 performances across 60 stages, including world-class music headliners, contemporary circus, theater, dance, and art installations. The festival is celebrated for its inclusive atmosphere, promoting values of love, peace, and freedom, and attracts a global community of 'Szitizens' from over 100 countries.
Sziget operates the 'Green Sziget' program and is a member of the Green Deal Circular Festivals initiative. Key practices include a reusable cup system, a 'Don't-Leave-Your-Tent' deposit scheme to reduce campsite waste, a 50% recycling target, biodegradable catering materials, water-saving vacuum toilets, and the promotion of sustainable travel options like the Sziget Express train and bicycle services.
